The work-study master’s program seems to be aimed only at people who are ready to work. In other words, young students think this is training for adults. However, the regulations put in place by the major schools are different. Find out here the ideal age to do a master’s degree in alternating years.

How old do you have to be to do a work-study Master?

The ideal age rule is inappropriate in the context of a sandwich course. Students have a wide range of options for doing a work-study Master’s degree. Moreover, this age varies depending on whether the student has chosen an apprenticeship contract or a professionalization contract.

In both cases, students generally complete their master’s degree in a sandwich course between the ages of 16 and 26. The system for calculating remuneration during the work-study period is based on this range. It is prohibited to grant a work-study program to a student under the age of 16.

This fact makes sense, because in order to work, the student must be at least the legal age to hold a position. However, there are exceptions to this rule for very early students. If your classmates meet the requirements, i.e. are 16 years old, you can get an apprenticeship contract and do a work-study master’s degree at age 15.

What is the minimum age for a work-study program?

It should be noted that the alternation is a professional training. The legal working age rule is thus applicable to all students wishing to do work-study. A student must be at least 16 years old to enter a work-study program.

It is the school’s responsibility to ensure that the trades available to students comply with the law. At age 16, the number of jobs a student can do is still limited. Indeed, the law prohibits jobs that endanger the health and safety of the person.

If a grande école accepts a student on a work-study program at the age of 16, it must ensure that the sector of activity chosen by the student meets these conditions. In fact, many companies avoid hiring people of this age if their main activity affects health and safety. Thus, 16 year olds often have business or management as their field of study.

Until what age can you do a Master’s degree in a sandwich course?

In the law, the age is quite vague. For the calculation of the salaries of the alternants, the State marks an imprecise age bracket. The salary is for students under 18, 18-20, 20-25, and 26 and older. In other words, the maximum age limit is not specified.

However, the practice works differently. The schools refuse to accept applications from students over 30 years of age, with a few exceptions. It all depends on whether it is an apprenticeship contract or a professionalization contract.

What is the age limit for an apprenticeship contract?

For an apprenticeship contract, the age limit is 29 years old. Specifically, a work-study student must register no later than one day before their 29th birthday to access their work-study training. The situation for people with disabilities is different. The latter can obtain a contract even after their 34th birthday.

This rule is also applicable to people who have obtained a contract and then faced a breach of contract. However, this break must be caused by a reason beyond his control. Also, enrollment in the work-study program must be within one year of the end of the previous contract.

What is the age limit for a professionalization contract?

In the framework of a professionalization contract, students must register before their 25th birthday in order to be able to follow a work-study master’s program. Depending on the school, however, this age may be over 40. If the school accepts adults, however, it subjects them to several conditions.

The applicant must receive a minimum social benefit, whether it is ASS, RSA or other allowances. The applicant must also be registered with Pôle Emploi. People with a single integration contract can also benefit from this exception.
