Corporate Relations Department

Roles

Support in finding internships

An interface between students and companies, the Corporate Relations Department serves two purposes:

  • Support students in their search for internships and in their professional decisions
  • Develop relations with and communication to businesses and monitor changes in business sectors and skills

The Corporate Relations Department is constantly in contact with the professional world as it tries to provide students ongoing, effective assistance.

Internship search assistance

Assistance with finding an internship translated into various complementary actions:

  • Workshops to teach students to write cover letters and CVs (for first year students)
  • Seminars given by working professionals as part of a "Business Forum" module (during the first and second years)
  • Assistance with formalising the professional plan, led by recruiting professionals (in the third year)
  • Seminar on entering the labour market (in the fourth year)

In parallel, meetings are planned by the department to explain the different steps to finding an internship.

Students have access to tools that can be consulted online or in the department's offices:

  • Offers for internships, jobs and VIE posted online and regularly updated; searchable by sector, position, etc.
  • An instant alert system so that students can be notified as soon as an offer meeting the student's criteria is posted
  • Evaluations of internships from previous years

The Professional Project and the Passport of Competences

Definition of the Professional Project

The project which is set up in ESCE seeks to prepare students for their future employment right from the beginning of their studies.
The project is followed throughout the program of studies by the progressive building of information (research, internships, team-work, meetings, exchanges), of reflection and of anticipation.

Students are expected to plan their career path as well as their international experience according to their wishes but also in function of the employment market and forecasts. The aim is to achieve the necessary competences in order to become truly employable internationally.

In down-to-earth terms, the project concerns the selection of internships, export missions and options of further study. It is then put into operation in seeking employment. The student must present he project and discuss it with a jury of professionals.

For the students, preparing the professional project means:
- becoming an actor for their own future
- creating a real network
- discovering themselves
- anticipating instead of suffering the employment market
- building their own competitive advantage
- acquiring a methodology that can be followed throughout the career

Definition of the Passport of Competences

The Passport of Competences is the inventory of everything that has been acquired in the professional project.

Students will bring together their professional and personal experience, tastes and values in terms of:

- their knowledge: everything they have learnt
- their skills and know-how: the competences they have acquired
- behaviour: the distinguishing features of their personality and character
- their professional motivations, taking into account:
o their strengths (total knowledge of a foreign language, good relational skills, etc.)
o their weaknesses (theoretical compared to practical experience, need for improved technological skills, etc.)
o their constraints (financial difficulties, geographical mobility, health restrictions, etc.)
o the values they adhere to (self-expression, stability, social prestige, financial motivations, etc.)
- their personal strategy to attain these motivations
- their target career or sector of activity

Student feedback:

- Loic D…
o I would like to thank you for the high quality of your assistance. I must admit I was a little sceptical at first concerning the workshops, somewhat afraid that the project would simply become a list of needs for the employment market. It turned out to be nothing of the sort. The work carried out allowed me to give a clear definition to my career project and your professional orientation and your advice will be put to very good use. I have made my satisfaction known to the team and to the other students.

- Heloise R…
o the sessions were clear and very enlightening. We are now experts when it comes to cv s and job interviews. Thank you for your availability and your precious help.

- Mikael G…
o I would like to tell you that the professional project program was extremely interesting and it taught me a multitude of things. It may have been even more beneficial to do this in our first year.

- Laila E…
o I was very happy to follow the workshop on the professional project. I see things much more clearly now and you have encouraged me to follow a career that will please me. Thank you for your enthusiasm and your optimism.

- Cecilia V…
o First of all, I would like to thank you for the advice you have given us during the week given over to the professional project. I now realise that it is possible to marry passion with work and that we can also find total happiness in our professional life.
